FedEx Peak Season Charges 2026
Just in time for the holidays, FedEx is at it again. On July 23, FedEx announced its 2026 Peak Season charges, effective October 26, 2026, through January 17, 2027. Shippers, especially residential, e-commerce and large-package customers, should prepare to take another major hit this holiday season. Higher charges, combo surcharges and double-digit increases across several services will make this peak season anything but merry.
The highest charges apply from November 23 through December 27—the main Peak Season timeframe.
Ground Residential and Home Delivery will be charged an additional $0.50 per package, increasing to $0.80 during the main Peak Season period—a 23% increase over 2025.
Ground Economy will be hit much harder at $2.55 per package, increasing to $4.05 during the main Peak Season period—a 14% increase over 2025.
FedEx Express packages will receive an additional charge of up to $2.55 for Overnight services and $2.35 for 2Day and Express Saver.
Larger packages will continue to take a beating. Peak charges increase to $11.85 for Additional Handling, $117.25 for Oversize and $595 for an Unauthorized Ground Package.
Large residential and e-commerce shippers may also get hit with an additional volume-based Residential Demand Charge if they ship more than 20,000 combined Residential and Ground Economy packages during any one of FedEx’s designated calculation weeks.
FedEx compares the customer’s volume during each calculation week with its average weekly volume from June 1–28, 2026. The additional charge begins when volume exceeds 105% of the June baseline, with tiers extending beyond 400%.
The charges can add up quickly. A residential package could receive the regular Residential Surcharge, the basic Peak Season charge and the additional volume-based Residential Demand Charge…ouch!
Keep in mind that current FedEx Residential discounts may not apply to these Peak Season charges. The FedEx agreement must specifically discount or waive the Demand Surcharges.
